Upon the Sea of Space
      By JoHannah P. Green

So fragile,
paper boats
pushed from our grasp
onto the still pond,
like glass,
stained green with summer algae.
We watch from the shore,
anxious to see the tiny craft
float beyond our control.
My chest tightens against
the inevitable pain,
so small and brief.
Long years have trained me
to expect
that tiny boats sail
to their watery doom.

But you watch with
delight.
For you the magical craft
have been born from flat, frail newspaper,
carefully creased and taped,
(abaracadabara)
into a mighty vessel,
sallying forth
upon the waters of the world.

Upon the sea of space
a fragile craft goes forth.
You, the creator, commander
(and your ship.)
will make your way
upon the waters of the world.
Do you know my heart
will always sail
beside you at the helm?
