Existential Answer
By JoHannah P. Green
In the arms
of the Golden Enchantress October Afternoon
revealed,
in sensuous display,
keys to the puzzle of existence.
We, humans,
eternal lights in the huge Universe,
were
seduced to earth;
tempted to touch
with our eyes
blazing trees
like shouted glorias,
demanding awe from every passer-by.
We were
enticed by the spicy-sweet scent
of applewood fires
and rich, crumbling leaves of amber and flame;
lured by the sounds
of barking geese,
encouraging each other
in ragged V's against the crisp blue sky;
charmed by the trills
of children's laughter,
skipping on the Autumn breeze.
We were
beguiled by joy
that could not last.
